Capitalizing on a Great Opportunity

Situated just 35 miles north of West Virginia’s geographical center, Lewis County enjoys the benefits associated with being at the crossroads of I-79 and Corridor H (U.S. 48).  With the completion of Corridor H (U.S. Route 48), the continued development of the Marcellus and Utica shale natural gas play, the reemergence of the hardwood timber industry and continued tourism growth, Lewis County will become a new business hub and transportation network connection that was previously unavailable to Central and Eastern West Virginia.

The natural resources and construction industries employ approximately 2,000 individuals in the county.  Average annual pay for natural resources jobs was $77,000 while construction workers earned $45,000 annually.  In addition to the new growth, the construction of two major intrastate natural gas pipelines within the county has created an immediate 200 unit shortfall in rental units.  Moreover, retiree populations are projected to increase 20 percent during the next five years as more Lewis County natives have expressed a desire to return home.  Opportunities abound for single-level homes, retirement communities and assisted living facilities.

These factors will require planning and development on the front end.

That is why Lewis County invites you to attend this Housing Summit on November 4th.  The Summit will outline the results of a Housing Survey that was conducted by West Virginia University, a brief economic outlook for the Lewis County/Central West Virginia region, a glimpse of potential developable sites and key county and city leaders, bankers and housing development experts who will be available to answer your questions and pledge assistance in getting projects moving.

A nominal $25 registration fee will help defray costs associated with hosting the conference.  Coffee, tea and soft drinks will be offered during the presentation portion of our Summit and attendees will be treated to a complimentary gourmet lunch buffet.

Simply register to attend the conference via the link provided on this webpage.  If you have any questions, please call Mike Herron at the Lewis County Economic Development Authority (304) 269-4993 or Lewis County Administrator Cindy Whetsell (304) 269-8200.
